Hayley Jayne Toothill

I’m a Communications Manager by day and a foodie by night.

Since unleashing my love of food in our new kitchen last summer, I’ve been a foodie on a mission. I’ve gone from owning no cook books at all, to having a ‘to-buy’ list so long I’ll be reading them forever. Even though our new kitchen is bigger, our cupboards are overflowing with utensils, crockery and gadgets – all of which I use on a regular basis. The only thing I love more than eating food, is making food.

And I also love writing, which is why I started this blog. Watching Julie and Julia inspired me to combine two of my loves [food and writing] and roll them up into one year long challenge; to eat, cook and blog my way through a whole year!

By the 1st of January 2014 I hope to know much more about food, have a wide repertoire of recipes I can call upon anytime and know how to use more of the fantastic ingredients available at Sheffield’s markets and independent local stores.

Although this is a ‘food challenge’, it’s also a personal challenge. In the film, the character ‘Julie’ not only discovered lots of amazing recipes (if you haven’t seen the film, you MUST watch it), she finds herself, and so much happiness in cooking. I want to find out more about myself too!

Beyond My Food Challenge I’m a Social Media type at an agency in Leeds. I play guitar, sing and like to travel, read and shop (preferably second hand).

I live with my fiance Dan in a beautiful apartment in the Broomhill area of Sheffield with our fish, Cecil. Dan is my chief taster, my on hand kitchen hand and a top pot-wash – I wouldn’t be able to write this blog without him.

Anyways – that’s enough about me. Tell me something interesting about you!

I love your blog and this is such a cool idea that has me super inspired! I’m slowly blogging through my own food projects and I’d love some advice on how you’ve gotten so many followers!

Ah, I responded to this ages ago and it isn’t showing (sorry)! People love food – make sure you tag your posts well, link up to your social media sites and use tools like stumbleupon. It takes time. Some days I have loads of views – other days it’s quiet! Good look – I’ll make sure I pop on over and say hello 🙂 x

Hayley, I’ve been reading up on a Parisian food blogger that you might find interesting, her name is Clotilde Dusoulier (Chocolate and Zucchini) – she started out blogging about food, and after a few months (I think it was a few months) she had a dedicated following that eventually became the platform she was able to launch a successful career as a food author from. She’s written and published 7 books now, and is a highly successful writer. Your site made me think of that, so congrats – I wish you the best!

Definitely! Best of luck to you of course, but I like your blog – I’ll see you later 🙂
