All Siam Sheffield – a lovely little gem

Last night we went out for our anniversary dinner. It took us ages to decide where to go. As you’d expect, we wanted somewhere special and worthy of the occasion – but also affordable. Last year we went to Ego next to the Winter Gardens and had a lovely meal, so this anniversary had a lot to live up to.

We’ve walked past All Siam so many times and wanted to visit. The decor is lovely, and extravagant without being tacky – we walked in and the table setting was beautiful; menus backed with golden fabric, embroidered fabric napkins and perfectly clean white table cloths – the setting is something special. It was also very quiet, which really set the tone – the second you walk in you relax and feel like you’re somewhere elegant and serene.

Our table was near the window – we were given plenty of time to get to grips with the big menu and ordered drinks whilst we worked out what to have. Dan had a Thai beer and I chose a Thai Rose as recommended in the menu, before we ordered our starter and mains.

We shared some pork and prawn rolls wrapped in vermicelli, which were served with a sweet chilli dip and garnished with beautiful butterfly made out of carrot – how they made it I have no idea. The dish looked beautiful, and was rich in flavour and filling. We had read reviews about small portions, however this was more than big enough for the both of us.

For our main I had a duck thai curry with a coconut, pineapple and lycee sauce and fragrant rice – it had two chilli symbols next to it on the dish – but it was just right for me and I would recommend going for something with a kick as it really isn’t too much. It was wonderfully sweet, with a hint of refreshing chilli – as was Dan’s dish, a similar red curry with chicken. I also tried some of Dan’s coconut rice, which was delicious.

Dessert wise we shared banana fritters with ice cream, which was a refreshing way to end the night.

I would also like to add the the service was wonderful, it is very good value for money – and would most certainly visit again.

Until tomorrow
