Today reminded me of a blog post my friend Hannah wrote about her first day in her new job last year. The excitement. The nerves. The hope of acceptance (and fear that it might not happen). Being a new girl in a new job is nerve wracking…
Poised with new shoes, new nail polish, new threads and most importantly – a shiny new blue flask and lunch box… I was ready to take on my new challenge. On the train over to Leeds I sipped on my lovely hot tea and tucked into some breakfast biscuits (I won’t be making a habit of these but I needed to eat). My warm comforting cuppa somehow calmed my nerves – the reassurance of a warm drink on a cold morning forced me to relax and take a few minutes away from my racing thoughts to enjoy a quiet train journey on a beautiful sunny morning. I love travelling by train… being stuck in a moving box forces me to be productive. Do train journeys make you like this too?
Of course, I worried that the commute would be tough and that my days would drag on and on, but after having some time to sip on my cuppa on the way in and chill the hell out – a rarity for me – I’m looking forward to my ‘me’ time for at least 40 minutes each day! I really do believe that it’s a perfect start to any day. Ok, ok – so I know it’s my first day and my enthusiasm may waiver from time to time… but jeez, it’s nice to wake up excited again! 🙂
