Oh my word. Today I died and went to chocolate heaven. I LOVE black forest gateau – ever since I was a kid I’ve loved it. Each Christmas my Mum used to buy one (from Farmfoods) and defrost it, just in time for the annual family dinner. I’d go back for seconds and thirds and could usually be found licking the plate the next day. So when I saw it on the menu at Cocoa Wonderland – I just had to have one.
I went with my friend Lucy today. We saw the Cocoa girls speak at the last Pecha Kucha and Lucy said she had never been. To remedy this we organised a chocolatey mate-date –I hadn’t been for a while either, not since starting my food blog – so it was about time I organised a visit.
The best thing about Cocoa is that it’s so handmade, and pretty. It’s full of handwritten signs and handmade touches. I love it! Upstairs in the butterfly boudoir you can plug in your iPod to the speakers to listen to your own music, read one of many books about chocolate or simply play a spot of Scrabble. The walls are brightly painted and the whole room is decorated with butterflies – my sister loves butterflies, I must organise a trip down when she next visits. I could have stayed snugged up in there all day.
Now, back to my hot chocolate. I went for the black forest gateau one, Lucy opted for the rocky road. The cherries on top of mine were soaked in brandy (I know… amazing) and were placed on a bed of whipped cream and chocolate buttons. Underneath lay the thickest, most tastiest hot chocolate I have ever tasted. They really have perfected the art of hot chocolate – as it cooled it thickened even further – and was so sweet and sticky, I found myself drinking it with a spoon. Yum!
If you’re in Sheffield and you love chocolate as much as I do – this place really should be on your ‘to visit’ list. You can either stay in for a hot chocolate [that will change your life – it’s that good] or you can pop in for a few treats from their wonderfully diverse chocolate counter!
Have you found had a hot chocolate to contend with this?
