Today we woke up in Milnthorpe, a lovely little town in the Lake District. After pizza and cocktails with my friend last night, Dan picked me up and whisked me off up North for a few days away. It’s a welcome break. If you read my blog regularly you’ll know that we had to cancel our trip to Copenhagen this weekend because we’re skint. Lucky for us, at the eleventh hour our good friend told us that his parents have a house up here and he organised for us to stay. Things have a funny way of working out.
It is beautiful. On one side we can see the snow-capped mountains further south – we believe they’re the Yorkshire Dales… From the other we can see the sea! It’s open plan and feels like it belongs somewhere in Scandinavia with its wooden floors and muted colours. Much to my excitement it is also filled with the most beautiful crockery and antique furniture… I want our home to be like this!
Now, back on to food. To keep costs down we brought lots of food up with us, but forgot to take one bag out of the fridge – so we arrived with no fruit or vegetables. Ooops! Rather than head to the local supermarket, we drove up to Kendal and hit Booths and the local markets. We picked up lots of fresh vegetables and some lovely Sicilian wine I’m drinking as I type up tonight’s blog post on my phone.
On our way back to the cottage we headed to Low Sizergh farm shop and tearooms for cheese and treats. A friend of ours used to work there as a Saturday girl, so Im told. Not only did we buy some cheese and meats, we met some cows and chickens, which was good fun!
Right, time to go ‘offline’ and get back to our break away.
